Homeowners Go Big With Bathroom Renovations

When making updates to a home’s bathroom, the 2023 U.S. Houzz Bathroom Trends Study found homeowners have decided bigger is better, especially in primary bathrooms. Of the 2,000 respondents, which included homeowners who had recently completed or plan to complete a renovation, 22% indicated they had enlarged or planned to increase the size of their primary bathroom.

“Bathrooms are a consistent focus for homeowners who want to update the room’s style and functionality,” says Marine Sargsyan, Houzz staff economist. “They continue to invest in improvements out of necessity and future needs.”

Along with bigger spaces, these are the other trends homeowners want to see in their bathrooms.

  • 43% want low curb showers
  • 54% want rainfall shower heads
  • 62% want LED lightbulbs
  • 46% want water-efficient fixtures
  • 33% want wood vanities
  • 33% want nonslip floors
  • 67% want recessed medicine cabinets
