Pantone Color of the Year

They say the classics never go out of style and, as we enter a new decade, color authority Pantone^® has decided the world needs the stable foundation a classic color like Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue provides. 

“A boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky, Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. 

Blue has long been considered a tranquil and peaceful color, aiding in concentration. The combination of restful blue with the word classic in Pantone 19-4052 also implies a sense of tradition or nostalgia. The new color is expected to influence purchasing decisions in home furnishings and other home interior categories, as well as product packaging and merchandising in 2020. 

For several years, shades of blue have been showcased in interior design from the moody blues of kitchen cabinetry to the dramatic blue and white combinations found on crisp, home furnishings fabrics. Pastel blues recently returned to vogue in the fashion world, influencing holiday decor in 2019. The return of Classic Blue adds another layer in the calming blue motif the interior design world has been slowly welcoming back after the popularity of cool grays. Retailers may want to keep Classic Blue in mind when making buying decisions in 2020.
