Lowe’s New Supply Chain Exec Comes From Omnichannel Retailer

Lowe’s announced the addition of Michael West as its senior vice president of supply chain field operations, the Charlotte Business Journal reports.

West joined the home improvement retailer from his previous post at Neiman Marcus, a high-end omnichannel department store. In his previous role at Neiman Marcus, West led distribution, transportation and fulfillment operations.

In his new position at Lowe’s, “West will lead operations for the company’s regional and flatbed distribution centers, millwork facilities and bulk distribution centers. He will be tasked with driving increased efficiency and flexibility for meeting the needs of customers,” the Journal reports.

West previously worked for Target Corp. where he served in various roles, including vice president of global logistics, according to the Journal.

“Mike has over 20 years of global retail experience in all facets of supply chain operations,” Lowe’s chief supply chain officer Brent G. Kirby says. “We are confident that Mike’s deep expertise and proven leadership in supply chain operations will help support Lowe’s omnichannel strategy by meeting customers on their terms and position the company for continued growth.”

The retailer sees competition in online sales with Home Depot, which continues to develop its e-commerce strategyAccording to the Lowe’s 2016 annual report, 3.5 percent of the retailer’s total sales were online, while Home Depot recorded that 5.9 percent of overall sales for 2016 were online.
