Walmart Tests Drones to Manage Inventory

Walmart’s warehouse inventory management process could soon be speeding up.

The country’s largest retail company is testing drones in distribution centers to help manage inventory more efficiently.

Within nine months, the drones could be used in Walmart’s massive warehouses, according to The New York Times.

The retailer recently demonstrated the drones, which can capture 30 images per second and flag misplaced items rather than having employees manually inspect labels, the article says.

The machines could reduce the amount of time required for employees to do cataloging from a month down to a day, the article says.

An article by The Associated Press explains that the drones would alert workers when an item is flagged so they can identify and fix any problems.

Walmart is working to compete against more tech savvy competitors, such as Amazon, which has been testing drones for delivery for over a year.
