Use of smart home products is constantly increasing, but what products are consumers buying and which ones do they prefer most?
An online survey conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of Lowe’s indicates that security cameras are the No. 1 smart home product Americans plan to buy this year.
Of the more than 2,000 American adults surveyed, 66 percent of the women and 71 percent of the millennials place higher priority on the security benefits smart home products can offer than older adults and men do. Keep those numbers in mind when you recommend and explain home security products to different types of customers.
Regardless of how much they prioritize these home security benefits, homeowners want the smart products that make their homes safer and easier to manage to be intuitive to use, according to Lowe’s.
Applied to Retail
This study shows that smart home systems will be important to home improvement projects in 2016, so be sure to introduce your customers to the smart security products your store carries and the benefits those items can provide.
Consider hosting demonstrations on how to install products such as smart doorbell systems or Bluetooth locks. Offering demos will help make customers more comfortable with the technology that they’re interested in using, and may encourage them to buy more smart home products than they initially planned.
Since new home security products are being released daily, ensure you stay up to date on the latest products and pay attention to customer requests. Your customers are likely doing research on what’s new and may be able to help guide you in keeping your product mix fresh.
