Richard “Chet” Kendall, formerly of West Union, Ohio, died in December at the age of 92.
He passed away at Woodlands Retirement Center in Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, June Kendall, as well as his children, 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Kendall was born April 15, 1953. He was a 1941 graduate of Winchester High School and was awarded a degree in business from Ohio University. He served in the U.S. Army during World Ware II. After returning from the service, he joined his father-in-law and opened K&H Hardware in West Union, Ohio.
He was actively involved in many organizations in his community and in the hardware industry. Kendall served as president of the Ohio Hardware Association and as president of the North American Retail Hardware Association (NRHA).
In a note written to NRHA on her behalf, June Kendall wanted to share the appreciation her husband had for the industry, saying, “He was happiest around hardware people and loved every aspect of serving on the NRHA board.”
