84 Lumber Welcomes U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, Honors Veterans in Kansas

84 Lumber recently hosted the 2025 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree on Veterans Day at its Lenexa, Kansas, location. The tree is making its way across the country, from Nevada to Washington D.C. 84 Lumber has served as the presenting sponsor for the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree for four years.

“This program connects people to the importance of the nation’s forests and the communities that care for them,” says Amy Smiley, vice president of marketing at 84 Lumber. “From Nevada’s mountains to Kansas’s heartland and on to our nation’s capital, the People’s Tree brings the country together.”

The store hosted hundreds of residents for the event which included treats, music, a Santa Claus visit and the opportunity to sign holiday cards for U.S. military service members. Visitors could also sign their names on the large truck banner carrying the tree to the U.S. Capitol.

The Capitol Christmas Tree is selected from a different national forest in a different state each year. For 2025, the tree was harvested from Nevada’s Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

“This red fir, named ‘Silver Belle,’ is Nevada’s Christmas gift to the nation,” says Duncan Leao, the project lead for the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree and a forester with the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. “The opportunity to provide the People’s Tree, highlighting the beauty of the Silver State and the importance of our national forests is one of the best experiences I’ve had in my whole career.”

In honor of Veterans Day, 84 Lumber also hosted a special holiday meal for families staying at the Kansas City Fisher House, a facility that provides 16 suites for families of veterans receiving care at the Kansas City VA medical center.

“Our team in Lenexa was proud to host this event,” says Tyler Golub, 84 Lumber store manager. “We welcomed the community to gather, honor veterans and celebrate this national tradition as the tree makes its way to Washington.”
