84 Lumber recently announced two leadership position changes for the vice president of purchasing role. Mitch Wagner, the current vice president of purchasing, has announced his retirement after 42 years with the company.
Wanger began his career in 84 Lumber as a manager trainee before coming to the headquarters to work in inventory management. He later transitioned into purchasing and eventually assumed the role of vice president of purchasing.
“I am unbelievably happy for my great friend Mitch Wagner. Mitch truly is one of one and I can personally say that I learned so much from him, especially in my early days,” says Maggie Hardy, owner and CEO of 84 Lumber. “84 Lumber is his passion, and all the hard work that he has given to this company over the last 42 years has been revolutionary. He is a cornerstone of 84 and made sure to build a great foundation within the Purchasing team. I am excited that he can enjoy the family he has built at home. Thank you so much Mitch, from the bottom of my heart, for everything that you have done for 84 Lumber.”
Dave Rumbaugh has been promoted to the position, effective immediately. Rumbaugh built his career at 84 Lumber by working his way through the business and gaining a deep understanding of the company’s operations at every level. Most recently, he served as vice president of fleet and specialty purchasing.
“One of the most valuable lessons Mitch Wagner has taught is the importance of never burning a bridge with people or partners,” Rumbaugh says. “He leads with heart and genuinely cares about his people. Mitch creates an environment where individuals are empowered to be themselves, make decisions, and take ownership of their departments.”
