Sears Canada Suggests Target Workers Apply for Jobs

After Target announced it is leaving the Canada market and closing all of its Canadian stores, another retailer offered to help the 17,600 employees who are losing their jobs.

Sears Canada will be hosting job fairs and is recommending that Target employees apply for Sears jobs, according to a news release from Sears Canada.

Target announced Jan. 15 that it is closing all 133 of its Canadian stores because the business isn’t profitable. The retailer will focus instead on continuing to grow its U.S. business.

“In recognition of the challenging retail landscape and yesterday’s announcement regarding the exit of Target from the Canadian market, Sears Canada wishes to do something meaningful to help employees affected by store closings and job losses and to do so in a respectful manner,” the Sears Canada press release says.

In addition, “affected Target Canada employees will be able to receive Sears’ employee discount for 16 weeks” starting Jan. 21, the release says.
