Brick-and-Mortar Regains Some Appeal

While consumers are more connected than ever through the Web, brick-and-mortar retailers are attracting more customers seeking in-person experiences for shopping.

Growth in Internet retailing has outpaced store-based sales gains in recent years, yet consumers are moving from the Web to in-store promotions in retail outlets, according to an article by Bloomberg.

Customers find more information online, but respond to in-store events and promotions pushed on the Web, David Hayes, head of creative strategy at blogging site Tumblr, says in the article.

In-store revenue growth is expected to accelerate to 4.9 percent in 2019 from 1.6 percent in 2013 and e-commerce sales are expected to slow from 21 percent to 12 percent, the article says.

Home improvement retailers looking for more ways to draw their customer to their stores should consider using social media and store websites to interact with customers and prompt unique reasons, like store events or in-store deals, to bring customers to the store.
