Simpson Strong-Tie Hosts Field Trips

A construction product manufacturer recently hosted 60 school girls for day-long field trips as part of a program that works to inspire young women to explore traditionally male-dominated career fields.

Simpson Strong-Tie of Pleasanton, California, gave the girls the opportunity to ask questions of the company’s female leaders, including CEO Karen Colonias and Jacinta Pister, senior vice president of manufacturing, according to a press release from the company. The students also toured the Simpson Strong-Tie’s connector lab and were given the opportunity to participate in a hands-on installation activity.

The company manufactures products, such as metal connector devices, for making buildings structurally strong.

The middle school and high school students came from the Santa Clara County Unified School District’s Girls Achieving in Non-Traditional Subjects program in California. The program encourages girls to explore science, technology, engineering, math and other career fields, the press release says.
