Busy Beaver Expands with New Store in Pennsylvania

Working under new ownership since last September, Busy Beaver has leased an empty 22,000-square-foot store on Plummer Street in Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania, that was formerly a Giant Eagle grocery store, according to a story in the Pittsburgh Business Times.

Steven Derr, director of marketing at Busy Beaver, said the company has signed a deal for the empty grocery store and hopes to open a new home improvement center in the location by September.

“It’s just great to really be back in the city of Pittsburgh proper,” Derr said. “We’ve been around for more than 50 years, and people don’t really recognize Busy Beaver as a unique Pittsburgh brand, and we’re trying to bring that back.”

The new store is the first under new CEO Joe Kallen, who bought Busy Beaver last September and plans to revitalize a retailer that’s been in business in the region since 1962 and currently operates 14 stores.
